Madonna Shares That She Owns the Celta Vigo Jersey the Club Has Been Searching For
Madonna Responds to Celta Vigo’s Search for Historic Jersey
Pop icon Madonna has responded to a request from Spanish soccer club Celta Vigo concerning a jersey worn by her over 30 years ago. The club had been searching for the distinctive shirt, hoping to reclaim a piece of its history.
On Saturday, March 7, Madonna took to X to confirm that she still has the jersey. “This shirt is hanging in my archives! I am wearing and representing your team in spirit!” she wrote.

Celta Vigo had earlier published an open letter to Madonna, inquiring if she still possessed the baby-blue-and-white jersey she donned during a concert at the club’s Balaidos Stadium in 1990. Club president Marián Mouriño Terrazo expressed appreciation for her influence, stating, “Over time we came to better understand what you stood for back then: questioning established norms and standing up to those who try to tell you what you can or cannot do. At our club, we recognize ourselves in this line of thought. That is why we hold on to the hope of finding the garment you once wore.”
In the letter, Mouriño also invited her to join the search for the jersey: “Do you have it? If you know where it may be, or if you would like to join us in the search to retrieve it, please contact us via private message.”
Madonna’s reply followed a Celta Vigo video featuring a choir’s rendition of her 1989 hit “Like a Prayer,” performed at the stadium before a match against Real Madrid.
Madonna shared her response on X, further connecting with fans and the team. See the tweet here.
