Madelyn Cline Teams Up with Glen Powell in Judd Apatow’s Upcoming Film at Universal
Madelyn Cline in Talks to Join Glen Powell in Untitled Comedy Directed by Judd Apatow
Madelyn Cline is reportedly in negotiations to star alongside Glen Powell in an upcoming untitled comedy at Universal Pictures. Judd Apatow, known for his successful comedic ventures, is set to direct the film, which he co-wrote with Powell. Cristin Milioti has also recently been added to the cast.
The film features Powell as a country-western star facing personal and professional challenges. It is scheduled to premiere on February 5, 2027.
Apatow will produce the film through his Apatow Productions, part of a longstanding partnership with the studio. Powell and Dan Cohen will produce under Barnstorm’s first-look deal, while Kevin Misher will produce through Misher Films. Universal’s Senior EVP of Production Development, Erik Baiers, and Director of Production Development, Jacqueline Garell, will oversee the project.
In her role, Cline is set to portray a pop star. Sources indicate that while the filmmakers initially considered casting real-life pop stars for this part, they shifted to a broader audition process recently. Following a strong audition, Cline reportedly impressed studio executives, securing the offer.
Cline’s career has gained momentum following her breakout performance in the Netflix series Outer Banks. The series returned for its fourth season last fall, quickly rising to No. 1 and maintaining a spot in Netflix’s Top 10 for more than seven weeks. She will reprise her role in the fifth and final season, set to premiere in 2026.
In July, Cline appeared in Sony’s sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer, featuring a renowned cast, including Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. In August, she starred alongside KJ Apa in The Map That Leads to You, directed by Lasse Hallström, which debuted at No. 1 on Prime Video’s Top 10.
Later this year, Cline will be seen opposite Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz in Day Drinker, a film directed by Marc Webb.
Cline is represented by CAA, Entertainment 360, Bold Talent Agency, and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum.
