Luka Dončić Scores 38 Points in Triple-Double Effort as Lakers Fall to Spurs 107-91 Without LeBron
Spurs Best Lakers 107-91, Fueled by Johnson and Wembanyama
The San Antonio Spurs secured a solid 107-91 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night, led by Keldon Johnson’s 27 points. Victor Wembanyama contributed significantly with 16 points and 14 rebounds, helping the Spurs improve their position in the Western Conference standings.
Despite a challenging night from beyond the arc—shooting just 4 for 25 on three-pointers—San Antonio displayed resilience, moving into second place in the conference. LeBron James did not participate due to arthritis and sciatica, marking the end of the Lakers’ three-game winning streak. Additionally, injuries sidelined Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura, further depleting the team’s roster.
Jake LaRavia and Jaxson Hayes were the only other Lakers to reach double figures, scoring 16 and 10 points, respectively. Luka Doncic stood out with an impressive performance, accumulating 38 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, but his efforts were not enough to turn the tide for Los Angeles.
Wembanyama, who had recently returned from a two-game absence due to a hyperextended left knee, continued to demonstrate his impact on the court. This game marked his 15th double-double of the season, building on a strong showing in a recent loss to Memphis where he scored 30 points in just 20 minutes.
Midway through the third quarter, the Spurs mounted an 11-4 run, taking a commanding 71-59 lead, bolstered by contributions from Johnson and Stephon Castle, who combined for nine points during that stretch. Castle finished with 15 points on the night, while De’Aaron Fox chipped in 14.
Both teams were playing on the second night of back-to-back games, adding a layer of fatigue to an already competitive matchup. The first half saw the Lakers attempt to disrupt the Spurs’ alley-oop plays, yet Doncic managed to connect with Hayes for an impressive reverse dunk.
The game concluded with Doncic recording his 86th career triple-double—a significant milestone placing him seventh in NBA history.
Looking ahead, the Lakers are set to host Milwaukee on Friday, while the Spurs will travel to Boston on Saturday.
