Lisa Ann Walter to Make Off-Broadway Debut in Heathers The Musical
Actress Lisa Ann Walter is set to join the cast of Heathers The Musical at New World Stages, marking her off-Broadway debut. The production will begin performances on April 27, where Walter will take on the dual roles of guidance counselor Ms. Fleming and Veronica Sawyer’s mother.
In a statement released Tuesday, Walter expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “This graduation season, it is with extraordinary delight that I announce my spring sabbatical – teaching the deeply disturbed students at Westerburg High. See you live in person at Heathers The Musical!”
Joining Walter on stage will be Isabella Esler as Veronica Sawyer, John Cardoza as Jason ‘J.D.’ Dean, and Zan Berube as Heather Chandler. The musical launched its performances on June 22, 2025, at New World Stages and achieved the largest advance in the venue’s 21-year history, breaking the house record four times. Following the success, the production has recently extended its run for the third time and is now scheduled to play through September 6.
Heathers features book, music, and lyrics by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe, adapted from the film by Daniel Waters.
In addition to her stage work, Walter currently stars as Melissa Schemmenti in the popular ABC comedy series Abbott Elementary, which is in its fifth season and has already been renewed for a sixth season. With a career spanning decades in television, film, and stage, her film credits include The Parent Trap, Shall We Dance?, Bruce Almighty, and Steven Spielberg’s War of The Worlds.
Walter has also co-created, produced, and starred in several shows, including Fox’s My Wildest Dreams, ABC’s Life’s Work, and NBC’s Dance Your Ass Off. Additionally, she authored the memoir The Best Thing About My Ass Is That It’s Behind Me. After two decades of touring as a standup comedian, she will premiere her first comedy special on Hulu this spring.
