Liam Hemsworth, Caleb Landry Jones, Sarah Pidgeon, and Dianne Wiest Join Paul Schrader’s New Erotic Thriller ‘Non Compos Mentis’ at EFM
Exclusive: Star-Studded Cast Announced for Paul Schrader’s New Thriller
Actors Liam Hemsworth, Caleb Landry Jones, Sarah Pidgeon, and Dianne Wiest are set to star in Paul Schrader’s upcoming erotic thriller, Non Compos Mentis. Hemsworth, known for his role in The Hunger Games franchise, will join Jones, recognized for his performance in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Pidgeon, a Tony nominee for Stereophonic on Broadway, and two-time Academy Award winner Wiest, acclaimed for her role in Hannah and Her Sisters.
Production of Non Compos Mentis is scheduled to begin this spring in New York. The film explores the lives of two privileged brothers as they grapple with their mother’s decline into dementia. One brother is a polished New York defense attorney, and the other a hardened corporate heir. Their already strained relationship deteriorates further when the attorney becomes involved in a consuming affair with a younger woman, sparking a tumultuous love triangle that leads to obsession, betrayal, and a fierce struggle for control over the family fortune.
For director Paul Schrader, this project follows his notable "man in a room" trilogy, including First Reformed, The Card Counter, and Master Gardener, as well as Oh, Canada, which premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
Schrader remarked on the film’s themes, stating, "My films are often about men testing the limits of their own control. Here, control becomes an illusion, and the consequences are intimate, erotic, and finally destructive."
David Gonzales, Schrader’s manager and frequent collaborator, is producing the film. He highlighted the exploration of desire’s destabilizing effect on familial power dynamics, emphasizing the exceptional cast and the film’s balance of intimacy and explosive drama.
Nadine de Barros will serve as executive producer on Non Compos Mentis through Fortitude Films, which is presenting the project to buyers at the upcoming European Film Market.
Liam Hemsworth, primarily known for his role as Gale Hawthorne in The Hunger Games series, has also appeared in Netflix productions such as The Witcher and Lonely Planet. He is represented by UTA and the agency Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
Caleb Landry Jones, a Cannes Best Actor winner, is currently featured in Luc Besson’s Dracula. He is represented by UTA, Authentic, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
Sarah Pidgeon, who received a Tony nomination for her Broadway debut in Stereophonic, will soon appear in FX’s Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. She is represented by Gersh and Anonymous Content.
Dianne Wiest, recently seen in Elsbeth, Only Murders in the Building, and Mayor of Kingstown, has upcoming roles in Practical Magic 2 and the family drama Mother Courage. She is represented by WME.
