Li Jin Hao Stars Alongside Glen Powell in Upcoming Judd Apatow Comedy at Universal
Li Jin Hao Joins Glen Powell in New Universal Comedy
Comedian Li Jin Hao is set to join Glen Powell in an upcoming untitled comedy film at Universal Pictures, with Judd Apatow directing. Apatow, alongside Powell, co-wrote the screenplay, which also features Cristin Milioti and Madelyn Cline as recent additions to the cast.
The film revolves around Powell’s character, a country-western star facing a challenging career downturn. Scheduled for release on February 5, 2027, the production has generated considerable buzz within the industry.
Apatow will produce the film through his long-standing arrangement with Universal, while Powell and Dan Cohen will oversee production via Barnstorm’s first-look deal. Kevin Misher will contribute as a producer through Misher Films. Universal’s Senior EVP of Production Development, Erik Baiers, and Director of Production Development, Jacqueline Garell, will supervise the project.
Li Jin Hao, a UK-based comedian, writer, and performer, was born in China and grew up in Singapore, where he served in the Singapore Army before relocating to Scotland for his studies at St. Andrews. He gained recognition as a finalist for both the BBC New Comedy Awards 2023 and the Chortle Student Comedian of the Year 2022. His Edinburgh Fringe debut in 2024 with his solo show, Swimming in a Submarine, earned him critical acclaim and a nomination for Best Newcomer. Following the film’s completion, Li is scheduled to return to the Edinburgh Fringe later this summer with a new hour of material.
Li is currently represented by WME and Individual Artist Management.
