Lewis Pullman Shares His Excitement About Filming Spaceballs 2
Lewis Pullman, star of the recently completed sequel to Spaceballs, described the experience as “cosmic.”
In an interview with People, Pullman said, “It was a dream come true. We just wrapped, and … every day was such a trip. It … felt like a bizarre simulation. I just couldn’t believe my luck.”
The actor, known for his role in Lessons in Chemistry, added, “We’ve been wanting to do that [work together with his father, Bill Pullman, a star of the original Spaceballs] forever and we never knew whether we could get the chance or not. And so doing it on a movie like Spaceballs 2 was just like, ‘What simulation … what world are we in right now?’”
Announced as in early development in Summer 2024, Amazon MGM Studios’ Spaceballs 2 will continue the legacy of the 1987 satirical classic, featuring Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, and Daphne Zuniga reprising their roles as Dark Helmet, Lone Star, and Princess Vespa, respectively. Mel Brooks will return as well. New cast members include Keke Palmer, Anthony Carrigan, and Josh Gad, who also co-wrote the screenplay. Directed by Josh Greenbaum, the film began production in September, with a script from Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez.
The project was confirmed earlier this year when Brooks shared a clip parodying the iconic opening crawl of Star Wars, humorously addressing Hollywood’s penchant for sequels. “Thirty-eight years ago, there was only one Star Wars trilogy,” he quipped, noting the multitude of cinematic franchises that have emerged since.
The comedy, a satire of the sci-fi genre drawing from classics like Star Wars and 2001: A Space Odyssey, grossed over $38.1 million worldwide and has solidified its status as a cult classic over the years.
The anticipated Spaceballs 2 is set for release in 2027.
