LeBron James Sets a New Record, Surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
LeBron James Sets New NBA Record for Field Goals Made
DENVER — LeBron James has surpassed another milestone in his illustrious NBA career, breaking the record for the most field goals made in league history, a title previously held by Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
During Thursday night’s game against the Denver Nuggets, James entered the contest needing three field goals to claim the record. He tied Abdul-Jabbar’s mark with a dunk from a lob pass by Luka Doncic at the 8:33 mark of the first quarter. He then set the new record with a fadeaway jumper near the Lakers’ bench, achieving a total of 15,838 made field goals with just 11.8 seconds remaining in the quarter.
As James took a seat with the Lakers trailing 32-22 at the end of the first, the Nuggets’ public address announcer recognized his achievement. Fans in Ball Arena responded with a standing ovation for the superstar.
“LeBron’s greatest hits, he just keeps adding to them,” remarked Lakers coach J.J. Redick before the game. “He just plays and plays and plays. And the greatest hits are just … he’s got a hell of a catalog.”
James is not only the all-time leader in field goals but also the league’s all-time leading scorer, having surpassed Abdul-Jabbar’s record of 38,387 points on February 7, 2023.
Ayton Injured Against Nuggets
In other developments, Lakers center Deandre Ayton left the game against the Nuggets in the first quarter due to a knee injury and did not return for the second half. The specifics of the injury have not been disclosed. During his time on the court, Ayton played just four minutes and 30 seconds, recording two rebounds without scoring.
Jaxson Hayes stepped in as Ayton’s replacement for the second half. Before his injury, Ayton was averaging 12.8 points, shooting 66.8% from the field, and pulling down 8.3 rebounds per game.
