LAPD Officers Respond to Apartment Break-In in Winnetka, Shooting a Suspect
Shooting Follows Burglary Attempt in Winnetka
A burglary call escalated into a shooting early Tuesday morning at an apartment complex in Winnetka, where police confronted a man breaking into a unit.
Los Angeles Police Department officers responded shortly after 2 a.m. to reports of a "hot prowl" burglary, which was occurring while residents were present in their homes. Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect using a metal pole to break into another apartment.
Despite repeated commands to comply, the suspect resisted law enforcement efforts, prompting officers to deploy a taser. However, the taser was ineffective, and the man continued to defy the officers’ orders.
The situation escalated into a shooting, and the suspect was struck. Emergency medical personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department transported him to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
Fortunately, no officers were injured during the incident. However, one resident sustained injuries to his hand from the burglary and received treatment on-site.
As the investigation continues, Saticoy Street will remain closed between Oso and Mason avenues.
