Los Angeles Police Identify Toddler Found Abandoned in Locked Car
Detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) have confirmed the identity of a two-year-old boy discovered abandoned in a locked vehicle following an attempted carjacking on Sunday. The incident occurred in Highland Park around 10 a.m., where the child was found alongside a dog that was later taken to LA County Animal Services.
While the boy is currently safe and under protective custody, the suspect remains at large.
According to LAPD, officers responded to reports of an attempted grand theft in the 300 block of N. Avenue 52. An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, recounted confronting the suspect, who claimed that “a dog was trying to attack him.” Witnesses reported that the suspect attempted to erase his fingerprints from the car seat using wipes before fleeing the scene.
Upon inspecting his vehicle, the car owner discovered the child and the dog left behind. Authorities noted that the boy and the dog appeared to be familiar with each other.
Details regarding the suspect’s identity and any potential relationship between him and the child remain unclear. Authorities stated that the toddler was unable to provide information about himself or the whereabouts of his parents at the time of his discovery.
The LAPD continues to search for the suspect as the investigation remains ongoing.
