Lakers Welcome Austin Reaves Back but Fall Short in Game 5 Against Rockets
Lakers Suffer Loss to Rockets in Game 5
In a surprising turn of events, the Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Houston Rockets 99-93 in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series on Wednesday night at Crypto.com Arena. Just prior to the game, it was announced that Austin Reaves would be available to play after a lengthy absence due to a Grade 2 left oblique strain.
Reaves, who had missed the first four games of the series and the final five regular-season games, checked into the matchup off the bench to a standing ovation with 5:39 remaining in the first quarter. He made an immediate impact, scoring 22 points and contributing six assists.
Despite the strong performances from Reaves and LeBron James, who scored 25 points with seven assists, the Lakers couldn’t secure the victory. The Rockets capitalized on balanced scoring from their starting lineup, with all five starters reaching double figures.
This defeat marks the second consecutive loss for the Lakers in the series, which they had once led 3-0. The team’s lead has now dwindled to 3-2, raising concerns about their playoff trajectory.
"We don’t have a lot of time to dwell on it," James said. "You can give yourself tonight, a little bit tomorrow. But once we get on that plane and head down to Houston, we got to forget about it and understand what we are going for, and it’s going to be even harder."
The next game is set for Friday in Houston, where the Lakers will aim to regain momentum and advance in the playoffs.
