Firefighters Rescue Woman from Tujunga Wash in Arleta
Firefighters successfully rescued a woman on Friday morning from the swiftly flowing Tujunga Wash in Arleta, where she had become stranded.
The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) received an emergency call around 8 a.m. regarding a woman caught in the concrete channel near Branford Street. This section of the wash, a 13-mile tributary of the Los Angeles River, has been swollen with rainwater following two days of significant rainfall, which has led to record highs in some areas.
Rescue teams found the woman being carried downstream towards Lankershim Boulevard. Utilizing a helicopter, LAFD personnel were able to lift her to safety from the turbulent waters. Fortunately, she sustained only minor injuries during the incident.
As of early Friday, flash flood warnings for Los Angeles have been lifted; however, flood watches and advisories remain in place across the region.
