Lady Gaga Stands Up for Immigrants at Minnesota Concert, Offering Support to Those Affected by ICE
Lady Gaga Voices Support for Minnesota Amid Immigration Tensions
During her concert at the Tokyo Dome on January 29, Lady Gaga took a moment to express her solidarity with communities in the United States impacted by ongoing violence and immigration enforcement actions. Her remarks come in the wake of increased tensions in Minneapolis, where recent operations by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have drawn widespread protest.
“I want to take a second to talk about something that’s extremely important to me,” said Gaga, sitting at her piano. She continued, “In a couple of days, I’m gonna be heading home, and my heart is aching thinking about the people, the children, the families, all over America, who are being mercilessly targeted by ICE. I’m thinking about all of their pain and how their lives are being destroyed right in front of us.”
Gaga highlighted her concerns for Minnesota specifically, calling attention to the fears residents face as they seek answers in a climate of uncertainty. “When entire communities lose their sense of safety and belonging, it breaks something in all of us,” she remarked. She urged leaders to take action swiftly, saying, “Good people shouldn’t have to fight so hard and risk their lives for well-being and respect.”
The operations by ICE have become a focal point of political tension since the Trump administration re-entered office in 2025. This past month has seen the situation escalate, particularly following the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, both allegedly killed by ICE officers, inciting national outrage.
Several prominent figures have echoed Gaga’s sentiments. Olivia Rodrigo recently condemned ICE’s actions, stating on Instagram, “ICE’s actions are unconscionable.” Billie Eilish added her voice during her acceptance speech at the 2026 MLK Jr. Beloved Community Award, expressing concern over the treatment of peaceful protesters and civil rights.
In contrast, the Trump administration has defended its officers, claiming self-defense in the recent fatalities, a narrative challenged by eyewitness video footage.
Gaga is set to perform another show at the Tokyo Dome before returning to the United States for the second North American leg of her Mayhem Ball Tour. Notably, her schedule leaves her free on February 1, coinciding with the 2026 Grammy Awards, where she is nominated for seven awards for her album MAYHEM and the Joker: Folie à Deux companion album Harlequin.
Shortly after, Gaga will participate in the Super Bowl, where she is set to release an emotional cover of Mister Rogers’ “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” for a national ad campaign. Gaga reflected on the significance of the song, stating, “It’s a special song to revisit at this time.”
