Lady Gaga Honors Mister Rogers with a New Take on “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” for Super Bowl Ad
Lady Gaga has reimagined the iconic theme song of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood for a new commercial airing during the upcoming Super Bowl.
The artist, known for her song “Mayhem,” features in an advertisement for Redfin and Rocket, performing a rendition of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”—the beloved tune originally sung by Fred Rogers in the PBS children’s series.
Reflecting on the song, Lady Gaga remarked, “I just think about my earliest memories as a kid watching Mister Rogers, and I think about how much he meant to people, especially kids at home.” This sentiment is conveyed in a preview of the ad shared on Instagram.
The commercial showcases Gaga as she develops her interpretation of the song, ultimately infusing it with her unique style by the end.
In the advertisement, she further expressed, “Mr. Rogers was so clearly someone that stood for something, and it is powerful to think of what he would say right now. It’s kind of a special song to revisit at this time. It was interesting to create something really heartfelt that keeps the purity and beauty of the original version but does it in a new way.”
Gaga’s cover of the Mister Rogers theme song arrives at a significant moment, as PBS recently lost federal funding amid a backdrop of political division and concerns regarding ICE raids across the United States. The song evokes a nostalgic era centered on positive community values.
