LA County Takes Action Against Reckless E-Bike Riding
Traffic Enforcement Operation Targets Reckless E-Bike Rides in Los Angeles County
In a recent crackdown on reckless e-bike and e-motorcycle riding, law enforcement officers in three Los Angeles County cities made one arrest and issued a total of 23 citations. The operation, which took place in Agoura Hills, Calabasas, and Westlake Village, aimed to address growing safety concerns associated with these vehicles.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), the single arrest involved a juvenile who failed to obey a lawful order after fleeing from a traffic stop. In addition to the arrest, deputies towed seven vehicles during the enforcement effort, which highlighted a range of violations. These included unsafe speed, failure to yield, use of a mobile phone while riding, running a stop sign, and failure to wear a helmet by riders under the age of 18.
The initiative comes in response to a rise in emergency room visits linked to e-bike incidents, which have seen an increase in head traumas, fractures, and internal injuries. Law enforcement officials are particularly concerned about the safety of young riders and encourage parents to educate their children on e-bike classification laws, safe riding practices, and road rules.
The operation reflects a continued commitment by authorities to ensure the safety of both youth and the broader community. Residents are encouraged to report any e-bike or e-motorcycle nuisance activities within their neighborhoods. Those interested in providing information can reach out to LHS Traffic Sgt.
