LA County Advises Caution with Ocean Water Before Upcoming Heat Wave
Health Officials Issue Beach Warning Amid Heat Wave
With temperatures set to rise dramatically during a regional heat wave, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has issued a warning advising residents and visitors to avoid ocean waters at several local beaches. This precaution follows recent water samples that revealed bacteria levels exceeding state health standards, raising concerns about potential health risks.
The following beach areas are affected:
- Santa Monica Canyon Creek at Will Rogers State Beach, near Will Rogers Tower 18, extending 100 yards up and down the coast from the creek.
- Santa Monica Pier, 100 yards up and down the coast from the pier.
- Pico-Kenter storm drain at Santa Monica Beach, near Santa Monica South Tower 20, within a 100-yard span from the storm drain.
- Mothers Beach in Marina del Rey, covering the entire swim area.
- Leo Carrillo State Beach in Malibu, 100 yards up and down the coast from the public restrooms.
- Pulga storm drain at Will Rogers State Beach, near Will Rogers Tower 5, extending 100 yards in both directions from the storm drain.
- Castlerock storm drain at Topanga County Beach, 100 yards up and down from the storm drain.
- Escondido Creek at Escondido State Beach, extending 100 yards up and down the coast from the creek.
- Marie Canyon storm drain at Puerco Beach, covering 100 yards in both directions from the storm drain.
Health officials emphasized that these warnings are a necessary precaution given the recent testing results indicating higher-than-acceptable bacteria levels.
Conversely, warnings have been lifted for two beach areas where water quality was found to be within state standards:
- Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro
- Herondo Street storm drain in Hermosa Beach, near Hermosa Tower TK
