Kyrgyzstan’s ‘Red Pants’ Earns Prestigious Award at Series Mania Forum
Kyrgyzstan’s Red Pants Triumphs at Series Mania
Kyrgyzstan’s drama Red Pants has made a significant mark by winning the prestigious Co-Pro Pitching Sessions event at Series Mania. This victory comes with a €50,000 ($58,000) prize after the show outperformed 15 other projects in a competition crucial to the Series Mania conference.
Produced by Studio Oymo and Human Films, Red Pants is a ten-part action drama set in late 1970s Soviet Kyrgyzstan. The narrative follows Aisha, the daughter of a military officer, as she forms the first all-female criminal gang, known as the ‘Red Pants,’ to avenge her father’s death while challenging an oppressive regime.
In addition to Red Pants, the event saw notable wins for other series. The French thriller R91 earned the Series Mania Buyers Upfront award, while Canada’s Chachachá! secured the SeriesMakers Award, which is presented in partnership with the Series Mania Institute.
The Co-Pro Pitching Sessions are recognized as a key feature of the Series Mania Forum, spotlighting projects from lesser-known international drama-producing countries, including prior winners from Slovakia and Ukraine.
R91, which marks its place as the second recipient of the Buyers Upfront award, follows the nuclear aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle (R91) on a strategic mission that turns perilous when a crew member is found dead and another goes missing. Military investigator Paul Fischer and his second-in-command, Helena Duval, are dispatched to unravel the mystery.
Next Episode serves as the producer for R91, with SND Groupe M6 handling international sales rights.
The eight-part Canadian series Chachachá!, crafted by writer-director Alison Fairweather Murray and produced by Jennifer Weiss of Nice Picture!, earned the SeriesMaker Award.
The Series Mania Forum, highlighting global talent and innovation, continues today and will conclude tomorrow with the Lille Dialogues sessions scheduled throughout the day.
