Kurt Sutter is Working on a New Noir Crime Drama for MGM+
Set against the backdrop of 1950s Los Angeles, a new noir drama explores the murky world of crime and corruption in Hollywood. The series follows a private investigator navigating the shadows of the glamorous film industry.
Kurt Sutter, known for his previous successes, serves as the writer and executive producer through his SutterInk banner. This project represents his debut in the noir genre while marking a return to the crime drama landscape where he gained prominence as a staff writer on FX’s The Shield. Sutter ascended to the role of executive producer on that series before creating Sons of Anarchy and co-creating its spinoff, Mayans M.C.
MGM+ has not commented on the project.

This new series is expected to join the roster of crime dramas at MGM+, including Chris Brancato’s The Westies and Ryan and Eileen Myers’ upcoming thriller anthology, American Hostage, which is currently in development.
Sutter’s recent work includes Netflix’s period Western drama, The Abandons. The series, which debuted last week, garnered 7.3 million views over its opening weekend, although Sutter departed the production shortly before its completion.
Alongside the noir drama for MGM+, Sutter is also developing Nomad for Apple TV, featuring Jason Momoa in a leading role. Set within the violent underworld of New Zealand’s outlaw bikers, the project is co-written by Sutter and Chris Collins, who will also serve as showrunner.
Sutter is represented by WME and Gendler Kelly.
