Kristin Cavallari Reveals Family Tensions Surrounding ‘Laguna Beach’
In a revealing episode of her podcast, Kristin Cavallari shared the tensions that arose within her family when she joined the second season of Laguna Beach. The reality star disclosed that her former stepmother, Nicole King, expressed strong discontent about her filming commitment, even threatening to leave if Kristin continued with the show.
“Nicole grabbed my application packet during casting and was furious after reading my comments about her,” Cavallari recounted. She described how, at the time, she had voiced her dislike for her stepmother, noting their close age differential. "I talked about how much I disliked her," she explained.
Cavallari reminisced about the moment her stepmother put her frustrations into action. “She actually threatened to leave when the second season of Laguna Beach was happening,” said Cavallari. “She told my dad that if I did the second season, she was gonna move out. And my dad said, ‘Then get the f— out.’”
As Cavallari observed, the situation escalated to a “really nasty fight” that she witnessed between her father, Dennis Cavallari, and King, reinforcing the strain their family dynamic endured during her rise to reality television fame. It was clear this tension seeped into King’s overall attitude towards both the show and Kristin herself.
In response to Cavallari’s revelations, King expressed her discontent with the portrayal of their relationship. "I honestly do not have anything to say. What was said does not reflect the truth. I care about my stepdaughter and wish her the best," she stated.
Cavallari’s relationship with her father has also been fraught in recent years. She has publicly declared a choice to cut off contact with him, stating it was a liberating decision. "It was the best decision I’ve ever made. Such a weight has been lifted from me," she remarked in a previous interview, emphasizing that she does not miss him.
Cavallari’s candid reflections provide insight into the personal challenges of balancing family ties with the pressures of reality television.
