Kings Struggle in Loss to Dallas Stars
Dallas Stars Clinch Victory Over Kings, 3-1
In a decisive performance, the Dallas Stars triumphed over the Los Angeles Kings, 3-1, on Monday night. Jason Robertson netted a critical goal late in the third period, while Wyatt Johnston marked his 25th goal of the season.
Robertson’s goal came with just 3:46 remaining in regulation when what appeared to be a centering pass inadvertently deflected off Kings defenseman Mikey Anderson. Matt Duchene later sealed the victory with an empty-net goal, scoring with 17.4 seconds left on the clock. This win marks the Stars’ second victory in three games, a notable turnaround following a six-game winless streak.
Goaltender Jake Oettinger played a key role in the victory, recording 24 saves. Defensively, Esa Lindell and Sam Steel contributed with two assists each, enhancing the team’s offensive efforts.
For the Kings, Quinton Byfield provided a moment of hope with a power-play goal at 8:42 in the third period, equalizing the score momentarily after receiving a backhand set-up from Corey Perry. This marked Perry’s 500th career assist, placing him in the history books as the first player to achieve this milestone at age 40. Despite this effort, the Kings have now lost three of their last four games and have been limited to just one goal in 12 of their 45 contests this season.
The Stars welcomed back captain Jamie Benn, who missed the previous three games due to a cut on his nose sustained on January 4. In an interesting note, Benn donned a visor for the first time in his 1,216-game career, leaving only three active players—Nashville’s Ryan O’Reilly, Minnesota’s Zach Bogosian, and San Jose’s Ryan Reaves—who have yet to wear a visor in the NHL.
This victory underscores the Stars’ resilience and sets the stage for their upcoming challenges in the season.
