Kevin Fiala of the Kings sidelined due to injury in Switzerland’s loss to Canada
MILAN — Kevin Fiala, left winger for the Los Angeles Kings, suffered a leg injury during Switzerland’s matchup against Canada at the Milan-Cortina Olympics on Friday. The incident occurred with just under three minutes remaining in the game, which Canada won 5-1.
Fiala collided with Canadian player Tom Wilson near the boards, resulting in a tangle of legs that brought both players to the ice. Unable to rise, Fiala received immediate medical attention after a stoppage in play.
He was later seen on a stretcher, with his left leg in an air cast as he was transported off the ice. “I haven’t seen him yet. I think he went to the hospital. Obviously it doesn’t look very good,” Swiss coach Patrick Fischer remarked. “Tough moment for Kevin and the whole team, obviously.”
No penalty was handed out for the play, with Fischer describing it as an unfortunate accident.
Fiala, 29, is in his 12th NHL season and his fourth with the Kings, where he has recorded 40 points in 56 games this season.
