Kevin Bacon to Star in Hulu’s ‘Southern Bastards’
Actor Kevin Bacon is set to take the lead role in Hulu’s upcoming drama pilot, Southern Bastards. The project, directed and executive produced by Reinaldo Marcus Green, known for King Richard, is based on the acclaimed graphic novel series by Jason Aaron and Jason Latour, who also serve as executive producers.
Southern Bastards follows a determined military veteran who returns to Craw County, Alabama, in search of her estranged father. Instead of reunion, she finds herself entangled in a web of organized crime led by the region’s most successful high school football coach.
In this series, Bacon portrays Earl, the son of the infamous Sheriff Bert, who maintained a tight grip on Craw County. As a robust yet humble blue-collar army veteran, Earl seeks to repair his relationship with his daughter while navigating the intricate and dangerous dynamics of his hometown.
The production of Southern Bastards comes from Onyx Collective, POV Entertainment, and Proximity Media, in partnership with Fifth Season. Bill Dubuque, known for his work on Ozark, wrote the teleplay and is also an executive producer alongside Matt Olmstead, who will serve as showrunner. Other executive producers include Aaron, Latour, Green, Layne Eskridge of POV Entertainment, and Ryan Coogler with his team from Proximity Media, including Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler. Simone Harris and Kate Barry will serve as co-executive producers, with oversight from Proximity’s creative executives, Hannah Baker and D’Angelo Louis.
Bacon recently debuted his horror-comedy Family Movie at the South by Southwest festival, where he starred alongside his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, and their children, Sosie and Travis Bacon. He is represented by Mgmt Entertainment and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
Director Reinaldo Marcus Green is recognized for his work on King Richard, which garnered six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, and earned Will Smith the Best Actor award. Green’s recent project, Bob Marley: One Love, has grossed over $180 million worldwide. His upcoming Marvel television special, The Punisher: One Last Kill, is set to premiere on Disney+ on May 12.
