Kay Adams Shares Why She Thinks Drake Maye Has the Potential to Shine Like Tom Brady
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is poised to make his Super Bowl debut at just 23 years old, leading some to draw parallels between him and Tom Brady, widely regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.
Veteran NFL reporter Kay Adams remarked on Maye’s impressive postseason performance, suggesting that it mirrors Brady’s early career. “What [Maye] has done through this postseason run compares to Tom Brady’s beginning of his career,” Adams told Us Weekly. “He’s receiving criticism about his passing metrics, but his start in a rebuilding year is truly commendable.”
The historical comparisons are notable. In 2001, Brady also emerged as an underdog quarterback for the Patriots after established starter Drew Bledsoe was sidelined due to injury. The Patriots faced a challenging season, losing three of their first four games. Ultimately, they claimed victory in the Super Bowl against the St. Louis Rams, who entered the game as massive favorites.
This year, the Patriots face the Seattle Seahawks, who are favored by 4.5 points. Adams anticipates a competitive matchup, stating, “Do not be surprised if they give the Seahawks team everything they can handle.” Regardless of the outcome, she believes Maye is on track to become one of the NFL’s rising stars. “Yes, [he has] staying power, no question,” Adams added. “One of the young faces of our league heading into 2026, no matter what happens on Sunday.”

Adams also praised Maye’s character, noting, “Drake is a beautiful story this year as well. He’s a dialed-in guy, but he can have a laugh. He is generous with his time.”
However, Maye’s journey to the Super Bowl has not been without its challenges. Some Patriots fans express concerns over a lingering shoulder injury. During a press conference on February 3, Maye sought to reassure fans, stating, “We’re gonna get some extra rest… I’m feeling good, and yeah, ready to go for the Super Bowl.” He attributed any discomfort to the cumulative toll of nearly 30 weeks of throwing.
As the Super Bowl approaches, many are eager to see how Maye performs on such a grand stage. Adams concluded her analysis by predicting a closely contested game but withheld specific winner predictions. She expressed excitement regarding the culinary offerings at the event, anticipating a standout dish, the gilroy garlic steak frites, from Levy Restaurants.
