Kathryn Hahn in Talks to Star as Mother Gothel in Disney’s Live-Action ‘Tangled’
In an exciting development for Disney fans, actress Kathryn Hahn is reportedly in negotiations to portray Mother Gothel in the studio’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Tangled. This news follows substantial online campaigning by fans who expressed their desire for Hahn, known for her roles in WandaVision and Agatha All Along, to take on the iconic villain.
Mother Gothel, the antagonist from the original 2010 animated film, is infamous for her manipulative nature and a relentless obsession with youth, a power she maintains through the magic in Rapunzel’s hair. Online reactions have showcased fans rallying behind Hahn, with many taking to social media to voice their support.
In recent tweets, some fans remarked on the natural fit of Hahn for the role, especially after actress Scarlett Johansson opted out of the project. One tweet included a light-hearted prayer circle graphic calling for Hahn’s casting, amplifying the excitement surrounding her potential role.
The discussions regarding Hahn come on the heels of casting announcements for other key characters. Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim are set to portray Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, respectively. Flynn Rider is known as the charming thief who aids Rapunzel in escaping her tower.
Michael Gracey, director of The Greatest Showman, will helm the live-action project, with a script penned by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. The original Tangled film garnered nearly $592 million globally and received an Oscar nomination for the song “I See the Light,” featuring music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater. Kristin Burr will produce the film for Burr! Productions, with Lucy Kitada serving as executive producer.
Hahn, a four-time Emmy nominee, has recently been recognized for her work in various projects, earning nominations for The Studio, Tiny Beautiful Things, WandaVision, and Transparent.
As of now, Disney has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding the casting discussions.
