Martin Short’s Daughter, Katherine Hartley Short, Dies at 42
LOS ANGELES — Katherine Hartley Short, the daughter of actor Martin Short and the late Nancy Dolman, has died at the age of 42 in an incident at her Hollywood Hills home.
Law enforcement sources reported to TMZ that the cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A representative for the Short family confirmed her passing and requested privacy as they mourn the loss of Katherine, a dedicated social worker and mental health advocate.
Katherine Short was found deceased when officers from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to her home shortly after 6:40 p.m. on Monday.
Born in 1983, Katherine was an accomplished professional with a master’s degree in social work from the University of Southern California and a background in psychology from New York University. Throughout her career, she was involved in mental health initiatives, working at UCLA’s Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital and the Camden Center. Additionally, she supported "Bring Change 2 Mind," a charity aimed at reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.
As news of her death spreads, it remains uncertain whether Martin Short, currently on tour with Steve Martin, will continue his scheduled performances. No official announcement regarding his upcoming appearances has been made, and details concerning a memorial service have not been released.
