Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt Shares Heartfelt Advice on Letting Go of the Need for Perfection in Life Balance
Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt Releases New Picture Book ‘Kat and Brandy’ Inspired by Childhood Connection to Animals
Author and advocate Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt is set to release her new picture book, Kat and Brandy, on November 4. The book draws from her own childhood experiences, particularly her bond with a rescue pony that helped her face fears and build courage.
Illustrated by Petra Brown, Kat and Brandy tells the heartwarming story of a young girl who learns resilience amidst life’s challenges. Through this narrative, Schwarzenegger Pratt aims to encourage readers of all ages to recognize the strength found in compassion, perseverance, and the opportunity for second chances.
In a recent interview, Schwarzenegger Pratt discussed the motivations behind her book and her reflections on family and balance. “Honestly, I feel like it was in my head for a really long time,” she said. “It’s based on my real-life friendship with my pony growing up. I always knew that my connection with her and my experience with her were unique, and I wanted to write about it in some capacity.”
The mother of three noted that her desire to write the book was fueled by her observations of how animals positively impact her children. “To see that as a mother—to watch the impact animals have on my kids, how they build confidence and work through their fears—made me want to write a book that highlights the healing power of animals and children’s ability to face their fears and tap into their courage,” she explained.
Schwarzenegger Pratt also highlighted her collaboration with Petra Brown, whose illustrations captivated her children from an early age. “I came across Petra Brown’s illustrations in a book that my kids received for their birthdays. I was impressed by how much my children were captivated by her artistic style,” she said, expressing gratitude for Brown’s involvement in this project.
As she prepares for her upcoming book tour, Schwarzenegger Pratt is mindful of the challenges of balancing family life with professional commitments. “What a book tour looks like for me is very different now than it was before I had kids. I take it day by day and see what works for my family,” she said, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing her family.
Acknowledging the complexities of balancing multiple responsibilities, she remarked, “I don’t balance it at all. There are certain days where I spend more time in one area than the other, and everything is always tilting in opposite directions.” She encourages others to be patient with themselves, recognizing that life involves various seasons that dictate different focal points.
In discussing her personal self-care routines, Schwarzenegger Pratt mentioned her early morning habits. “I’m an early riser. I try to wake up before my kids and start my day with skincare and hydration,” she said, sharing that her routine helps her maintain her well-being during the demanding postpartum phase.
Overall, Kat and Brandy promises to resonate with readers by illustrating the profound connections between children and animals, while also highlighting themes of resilience and healing. The book serves as a testament to Schwarzenegger Pratt’s commitment to sharing her experiences and the lessons learned along the way.
