Justin Baldoni and Crisis PR Team Work to Protect Blake Lively’s Jury from Past Client Issues and Negative Websites
Legal Battle Intensifies Between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni Ahead of Upcoming Trial
As the trial approaches between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, tensions are escalating in the multi-million dollar case surrounding the production of It Ends With Us and its alleged fallout. With proceedings set to begin on May 18 in federal court in New York City, both parties are ramping up legal maneuvers in anticipation of the courtroom showdown.
In recent developments, Baldoni and his team, including publicist Melissa Nathan, are requesting that any references to their previous high-profile clients be kept confidential. This plea comes amid severe allegations of retaliation, breach of contract, and aiding and abetting, as they face claims linked to a supposed smear campaign against Lively.
This latest motion coincides with a flurry of last-minute legal filings, including witness lists and sealed documents. Among witnesses, while Taylor Swift may not be testifying, her name will be invoked, whereas Ryan Reynolds is expected to appear.
Baldoni’s defense team refers to the situation as a collection of "awkward comments and perceived slights," aiming to prevent the jury from hearing testimonies about “alleged bad experiences of other women”—specifically referencing actresses Jenny Slate and Isabela Ferrer, who were involved in the same project. Additionally, author Colleen Hoover, whose novel inspired the film, is also being mentioned in connection with these efforts to control the courtroom narrative.
Nathan’s legal representatives argue that the decision to introduce evidence involving her past work with various clients, including controversial figures like Johnny Depp and Rebel Wilson, would unfairly depict her as immoral. They assert that this information is irrelevant to the case at hand, as Lively’s allegations do not claim that these practices were employed against her.
Amid these tensions, Lively maintains that the defendants launched a preemptive online attack against her, orchestrated by Nathan and her associates, in an effort to discredit her before she could come forward with accusations against Baldoni. The proposed smear campaign reportedly involved a barrage of negative online content aimed at damaging Lively’s reputation.
Meanwhile, Lively’s legal team is working to ensure that the jury does not access any evidence or arguments they believe could undermine her case, including issues related to her financial status and internal communications from Sony.
As both sides gear up for the trial, settlement negotiations have reportedly stalled. With around $300 million in damages at stake, the upcoming jury selection is poised to be a critical moment, not just for Lively but for all parties involved.
Further complicating matters, Amber Heard, who faced her own public struggles, has expressed support for Lively in light of her allegations. Despite previous controversies, she noted the destructive power of social media campaigns.
With court proceedings on the horizon, the stakes are high, and both Lively and Baldoni’s teams seem prepared for an intense legal battle. As the adage goes, “the game’s afoot.”
