José Soriano’s Impressive Performance Guides Angels to Victory Against Cubs
CHICAGO — José Soriano delivered another stellar performance on Tuesday night, throwing two-hit ball over six scoreless innings as the Angels secured a 2-0 victory against the Chicago Cubs. This marks Soriano’s second consecutive start with similar statistics.
In the sixth inning, Logan O’Hoppe came through with a critical two-run single, driving in runs with two outs against Cubs reliever Phil Maton. Soriano, now 2-0, needed that offensive support on a chilly and windy evening at Wrigley Field.
The 27-year-old right-hander threw 90 pitches, recording four strikeouts while issuing two walks. This outing followed his impressive debut in the Angels’ 3-0 win at Houston on opening day.
Chase Silseth managed to navigate through a single by Nico Hoerner and a walk to Moisés Ballesteros in the seventh. Drew Pomeranz pitched 1⅓ scoreless innings against his former team, and Jordan Romano secured his second save, striking out pinch-hitter Michael Conforto to close the game after walking Dansby Swanson.
Cubs starter Jameson Taillon made his season debut, giving up just two hits over 4⅔ innings before exiting after intentionally walking Mike Trout to load the bases. Hoby Milner ended the threat by retiring Nolan Schanuel on a groundout.
Despite missing opportunities earlier, the Angels capitalized in the sixth inning when O’Hoppe hit a ground ball that deflected off third baseman Alex Bregman’s glove, allowing both runs to score.
This victory marked a much-needed turnaround for the Angels, who ended a three-game losing streak.
