Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions Shifts Focus and Direction
Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions has confirmed the layoff of three staff members from its development team.
Currently, the development department employs about four staffers, who continue to receive material. Specific details regarding the identities of the individuals laid off remain unclear. This reduction follows a similar round of layoffs last year, which included three Production Vice Presidents and approximately five junior staffers. While last year’s cuts targeted the TV division, this year’s layoffs affected the features department.
Monkeypaw Productions is currently under a deal with Universal, established in 2019. Peele, the Oscar-winning director of *Get Out*, sought to initiate a new film project at Universal after his summer 2022 release, *Nope*, which grossed over $171 million worldwide. However, that project has faced significant delays, with no immediate plans for a fourth directorial effort from Peele.
The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report on Monkeypaw’s recent layoffs.
