Join the Fun at ArtNight: A DTLA Tradition Honoring Culture and Community
DTLA ArtNight Celebrates Community and Creativity in Los Angeles’ Historic Core
On the first Thursday of each month, Los Angeles’ Historic Core becomes a lively center of artistic expression as DTLA ArtNight showcases a diverse mix of galleries, street performances, and local vendors. This monthly event encourages a celebration of creativity and community engagement.
“It’s creativity. It’s community. It’s culture,” said Diana Barillas, the director of operations and creative strategy for DTLA ArtNight, in an interview with LA Downtown News earlier this month. “We highlight the creatives downtown and also the businesses. The more people we can bring down here through art, the more our community as a whole can expand and get better.”
Now in its third year, DTLA ArtNight was soft launched in April 2023. Barillas, who began her involvement as a volunteer at the event in May 2023, has played a pivotal role in its development.
The opening reception occurs monthly from 6 to 10 p.m., with the upcoming event scheduled for March 5. This iteration is themed around the concept of “rediscovery,” according to the organizers.
The mission of DTLA ArtNight is to revitalize the Historic Core and Downtown Los Angeles by creating a walking tour that fosters revenue for local bars, restaurants, galleries, and shops. The event aims to culturally connect not only the downtown community but also the broader Los Angeles area, with a focus on rejuvenating the beloved DTLA.
