Join the 2026 American Idol Judges on a Heartfelt Journey at Idol University
American Idol Judges Explore Nostalgia in College-Themed Promo
In a nostalgic twist for fans, Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Carrie Underwood showcased their vibrant personalities in an exclusive promotional clip for American Idol. The segment, featuring a fictional "Idol University," highlights the show’s rich legacy while teasing the upcoming 2026 season.
The clip launched on December 31 and features longtime host Ryan Seacrest welcoming the judges to Idol University. "Welcome to American Idol University. With decades of talent on display, I’m so excited for you all to explore these historic halls," Seacrest said while donning a royal blue letterman’s jacket.
Throughout the video, the judges donned matching university gear, immersing themselves in the colorful, memorabilia-filled setting. Underwood, reflecting on their surroundings, remarked, "Look at all of these superstars that have graduated from Idol-U." The camera captured images of Idol alumni, including Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, and Jamal Roberts, celebrating the show’s impact on its contestants.
Richie added, "A dream come true in every direction," as they pondered the remarkable achievements of past contestants. The promotional clip also featured a segment titled "American Idol by the Numbers," highlighting awards and platinum records gained throughout the show’s run.
"What an incredible amount of lives that have changed," Bryan said while taking in the numerous accolades. He humorously noted, "And hairstyles," as a display presented a timeline of Seacrest’s changing hairstyles over the years.
In a light-hearted moment, the judges initially mistook a wax figure of Clay Aiken for a real person. When Aiken turned to wink at them, he caught the judges off guard, generating laughter.
Approaching a door marked "welcome 2026 Idols," Underwood joyfully announced, "American Idol class of 2026 is in session," leading into a brief teaser of the season to come.
As the promotional video concluded, Aiken humorously borrowed Seacrest’s iconic catchphrase, asking, "Who will be the next American Idol?" To which Seacrest, stepping into the frame, replied, "Um, that’s my line!"
American Idol season 24 is set to premiere on January 26 on ABC, with episodes available for streaming the following day on Hulu.
