LA Mayoral Race Heats Up as Primary Approaches
LOS ANGELES — As the June 2 California primary election nears, the competition for the mayoral seat in Los Angeles intensifies. Mayor Karen Bass, who is campaigning for a second term, faces 13 challengers, including reality television star Spencer Pratt, City Councilwoman Nithya Raman, and tech entrepreneur Adam Miller, all of whom are garnering financial backing for their campaigns.
In an effort to engage voters, FOX 11 has collaborated with the Pat Brown Institute for Public Affairs and the League of Women Voters of Greater Los Angeles to host a live, televised forum. Scheduled for May 13 from 6 p.m. PT to 7:30 p.m. PT, the event will feature four leading candidates, moderated by FOX 11 anchors Marla Tellez and Bob DeCastro.
The confirmed candidates for the forum include:
- Karen Bass, Mayor of Los Angeles
- Rev. Rae Huang, pastor and housing advocate
- Adam Miller, entrepreneur and nonprofit founder
- Nithya Raman, City Councilmember
While Spencer Pratt was invited to participate, he declined due to a scheduling conflict.
The forum aims to serve as a nonpartisan civic engagement initiative, designed to inform and activate voters ahead of the primary election. Organizers expressed their goal to put candidates on the record regarding vital issues impacting Los Angeles communities. This initiative is intended to give voters clear insights into each candidate’s stance on pressing city challenges.
During the forum, each candidate will respond to the same set of questions, which will be developed collaboratively by the event’s partners, including the Pat Brown Institute, the League, and FOX 11. Suggested questions will also incorporate input from the public.
