John Mellencamp Provides Update on Daughter’s Health Amid Cancer Battle
John Mellencamp has shared concerning news regarding his daughter, Teddi Mellencamp, who is currently battling stage 4 cancer. During an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast on January 14, the 74-year-old musician revealed that his 44-year-old daughter is "really sick."
“It’s not f—ing fun,” Mellencamp stated, highlighting the emotional toll of Teddi’s condition. “She’s got cancer in the brain, and she’s suffering right now.”
The update comes as a surprise following Teddi’s optimistic announcement in October 2025, when she stated that her cancer was “gone.” However, she was cautious, acknowledging that she wasn’t completely out of danger with her ongoing health issues.
In a previous podcast episode, Teddi noted, “Just to give a little life update to you guys, I had my immunotherapy yesterday and I did my scans and at this point there is no detectable cancer.” She described her feelings upon receiving the good news as shock and numbness.

Despite the temporary reprieve, Teddi has expressed that her fight is far from over. “I’m still going to be having days when I’m feeling sick and stuff because I still am in immunotherapy, so I’m still fighting because you have to be,” she noted.
She also mentioned that her treatment plan includes a year of immunotherapy, clarifying that she is not yet in remission. “The way the [doctors] said it works, it’s like one year, then two years, then at three years you’re allowed to be considered … in remission,” she explained.
Teddi’s journey began in 2022 with a diagnosis of stage 2 melanoma. Since then, she has undergone 17 surgeries and faced a significant escalation in her health struggles, including metastasis to her brain and lungs in April 2025. Throughout this challenging journey, she has received various treatments, including immunotherapy and radiation.
