Jo Adell Hits Two Home Runs as José Soriano Excels in Angels’ Victory Against Blue Jays
Angels Defeat Blue Jays 6-1, End Road Losing Streak
TORONTO — The Los Angeles Angels broke an eight-game road losing streak and avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays, securing a 6-1 victory on Sunday. Jo Adell shone in the game, hitting two solo home runs, while José Soriano delivered a strong pitching performance, striking out seven in 7⅔ innings.
The Angels entered the matchup eager to reverse their fortunes after struggling in prior outings. Soriano, who improved to 6-2 this season, faced early challenges, allowing two hits and a walk in the first inning that included an RBI double from Kazuma Okamoto. However, he found his rhythm, retiring 20 consecutive batters before Myles Straw broke the streak with an infield single in the eighth.
"This win was crucial for us, especially after the tough stretch we’ve faced," Soriano said after the game. "I just focused on attacking the hitters and trusted my defense."
Oswald Peraza contributed significantly to the Angels’ win with a two-run homer in the fifth inning, while Adell added his first homer in the sixth and another in the ninth, both against Blue Jays starter Eric Lauer, who fell to 1-5 on the season. Lauer surrendered six runs and five hits over five innings.
The Angels also took advantage of the Blue Jays’ disarray as right fielder Addison Barger was scratched from the lineup due to a sore right shoulder, having just returned from a 29-game absence due to an ankle injury.
Additionally, Vaughn Grissom drove in two runs with a double, underscoring the Angels’ offensive resurgence.
Next, the Angels will face a new challenge as they prepare to take on Cleveland, with left-hander Joey Cantilo (2-1, 3.43 ERA) set to start the series opener.
