Jensen Ackles Shares Insights on Soldier Boy’s Journey in Vought Rising Prequel Series: Plans for Multiple Seasons Ahead
As the popular series The Boys embarks on its fifth and final season, new developments are poised to unfold for the character Soldier Boy, whose backstory remains to be explored.
Jensen Ackles, who first portrayed this cryogenically frozen superhero in Season 3, will return to the role in the prequel series Vought Rising. Ackles recently hinted that Soldier Boy will be positioned as “the top dog” in this new installment.
“It’s going to feel familiar in terms of format,” Ackles explained in an interview with Collider. “I think that’s taking what really works with The Boys and trying to do something a little bit different with it, certainly as a period piece in the 1950s. The Soldier Boy aspect is interesting because he is an analog man in a digital world, which makes him a fish out of water based on what we know now.”
He further elaborated, “Now we’re getting to see him in his actual environment where he feels he belongs. He’s the top dog. This series allows us to peel back the layers of what really happened during that time, providing insight into why he ended up the way he did.”

The actor indicated that the intention is to create multiple seasons of this prequel. “When they pitched it, they mentioned going back to the 1950s with Soldier Boy, and I didn’t hesitate to say, ‘Yes!’ The plan is definitely for it to be a multi-season show,” Ackles stated.

The fifth and final season of The Boys is set to premiere on April 8 on Prime Video. This season will depict a world under the turbulent control of Homelander (Antony Starr). As characters like Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), and Frenchie (Tomer Capone) find themselves imprisoned, Annie (Erin Moriarty) grapples with her efforts to resist the overwhelming power of the Supes. Meanwhile, as Butcher (Karl Urban) prepares to unleash a virus intended to eliminate all Supes, he sets off a chain reaction that will irrevocably alter the lives of those around him.
Paul Grellong leads the show as showrunner for Vought Rising, while Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal are involved as executive producers for The Boys: Mexico alongside writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. The recent conclusion of Gen V, a college spin-off, sets the stage for the finale of The Boys. However, an animated sequel, The Boys Presents: Diabolical, is unlikely to return for a second season.
