Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell Star in New Movie ‘Single Female’ with Sarah DeLappe as Writer and Stacey Sher and Marisa Paiva as Producers
Sarah DeLappe to Script Remake of Classic Thriller ‘Single White Female’
Sarah DeLappe, recognized for her acclaimed work on the film Bodies Bodies Bodies, has been tapped to write the screenplay for Single Female, a new project from 3000 Pictures. The remake will feature Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell in lead roles, revisiting the themes of the 1992 box office hit Single White Female.
The original film starred Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh, centering on a woman who becomes increasingly suspicious of her new roommate. The success of this film propelled its leads to stardom and left a lasting impact on the thriller genre.
DeLappe’s involvement as a writer, along with notable producers attached to the project, indicates a strong commitment from the studio. Producer Scott Stuber has a rich history of high-profile productions, including Contagion and the Oscar-nominated Django Unchained. His recent work on the A24 horror thriller Heretic further underscores his industry expertise. For Paiva, this project marks her first significant producing role after two decades as a respected studio executive.
An award-winning playwright and screenwriter, DeLappe is particularly known for exploring young female relationships. Her screenplay for Bodies Bodies Bodies achieved both critical and commercial success. Additionally, her play The Wolves received the American Playwriting Foundation’s inaugural Relentless Award and was a finalist for the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Jenna Ortega is currently recognized for her portrayal of Wednesday Addams in Netflix’s Wednesday, which is in the midst of filming its third season. This year, she will also appear in Taika Waititi’s Klara and the Sun and JJ Abrams’ The Great Beyond, set for theatrical release in November.
Taylor Russell is set to appear in Hope, an upcoming Korean thriller directed by Na Hong-jin. Recently, she made her stage debut in Jamie Lloyd’s revival of Lucy Prebble’s play The Effect, which had successful runs in both London and New York. Russell gained prominence through her role in Luca Guadagnino’s 2022 film Bones and All.
The collaboration of DeLappe, Ortega, and Russell signals a fresh take on a beloved thriller, raising anticipation among audiences and industry observers alike.
