Jayden Maiava Will Be Back as USC’s Starting Quarterback for the 2026 Season
USC Quarterback Jayden Maiava Confirms Return for 2026 Season
In a pivotal announcement, Jayden Maiava, the starting quarterback for the University of Southern California (USC), will return for the 2026 season. The school confirmed this development on Tuesday, marking Maiava’s third year with the Trojans.
Last season, Maiava led USC to a commendable 9-3 record in his first full year as a starter, having taken over the role in the latter part of the 2023 season. He finished with impressive stats, throwing for 3,431 yards, completing 23 touchdown passes, and recording eight interceptions. Additionally, he contributed to the team’s success with six rushing touchdowns.
His strong performance raised speculation about a potential declaration for the NFL draft, with some analysts considering him among the top quarterback prospects in a draft perceived to be lacking in standout passers.
Initially entertaining thoughts of turning pro, Maiava ultimately decided to continue his development at USC. The Trojans are expected to retain much of their potent offense heading into 2026, with the notable exception of their leading wide receivers, Makai Lemon and Ja’Kobi Lane, both of whom have declared for the draft. Earlier this week, USC also announced the re-signing of star running back Waymond Jordan and receivers Tanook Hines and Zacharyus Williams for the upcoming season.
With Maiava’s return secured, attention now shifts to five-star backup Husan Longstreet. His future at USC remains uncertain as he considers whether to wait another season behind Maiava.
This offseason is set to be pivotal for the Trojans as they look to build on their recent successes.
