Jane Fonda Shares Her Thoughts on Barbra Streisand’s Oscars Tribute to Robert Redford: “I Worked with Him on Four Films”
Jane Fonda, known for her candid nature, recently shared her thoughts on Barbra Streisand’s tribute to Robert Redford at the 98th Academy Awards. In a lighthearted moment during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Fonda asked, “I wanna know how come Streisand was up there doing that for Redford? She only made one movie with him. I made four. I have more to say.”
Reflecting on her experiences with Redford, Fonda fondly described him as “the most gorgeous human being” and praised his significant contributions to cinema. “I was always in love with him… he really changed movies, lifted up independent movies,” she added.
Fonda starred alongside Redford in four films: The Chase (1966), Barefoot in the Park (1967), The Electric Horseman (1979), and Our Souls at Night (2017).
Redford passed away on September 16, 2025, at the age of 89.
During the tribute, Streisand sang a section from the Oscar-winning theme song of The Way We Were, highlighting her relationship with Redford. “He was a brilliant, subtle actor, and we had a wonderful time playing off each other because we never quite knew what the other one was going to do in a scene,” she noted.
Streisand further commended Redford for his advocacy both on and off the screen, stating, “He spoke up to defend freedom of the press, protect the environment and encouraged new voices at his Sundance Institute, some of whom are up for Oscars tonight, which is so great. He was thoughtful and bold. I called him an intellectual cowboy who blazed his own trail, and won the Academy Award for best director, and I miss him now more than ever.”
