Janai Norman Reflects on Leaving ‘GMA’ and the Heartfelt Goodbyes She Wished She Could Share
Janai Norman Bids Farewell to ABC’s ‘Good Morning America Weekend’
Janai Norman, who co-anchored ABC’s Good Morning America Weekend since 2022, announced her departure from the program over the weekend. In a heartfelt video shared on social media, Norman expressed her disappointment upon learning that her contract would not be renewed.
“I’d hoped that we’d have more time,” she began in her emotional farewell. “It’s been hard on me that our time was cut short. I have loved my job. It has been a joy to connect with my co-workers and with viewers to help keep you informed and entertained and to create this community.”
Norman conveyed her regret at not being able to say goodbye in person. “So it really breaks my heart that I don’t get to say goodbye. I’m so sorry that I don’t get to say goodbye. It would have been fun.”
However, she also reflected on her family, mentioning, “But I have these three young kids, and I have worked weekends their whole lives, and so now they get more of me, and that is worth everything. So stay tuned. I’m sorry. I feel you and thank you to every single one of you who has reached out with such kind and validating words; I have needed it, and I appreciate it.”
The video was accompanied by a caption that simply read, “More in time.”
Norman’s unexpected departure was first reported in Oliver Darcy’s Status newsletter. As of now, there has been no announcement on who will fill her position.
Having joined ABC News as an intern in 2011, Norman played a pivotal role in launching the second hour of Saturday’s GMA in 2019, working alongside co-anchors Whit Johnson and Gio Benitez.
Norman also shared a tweet expressing her gratitude: "With gratitude & love. More in time ✨"
As she transitions away from the program, her departure raises questions about the future of ABC’s weekend news lineup.
