In her tribute, McComb posted a nostalgic photograph of herself with Van Der Beek. The couple tied the knot in 2003 but separated in 2009, finalizing their divorce the following year.

In her post, McComb expressed her gratitude for the support she received, stating, “Thank you to everyone who has reached out. I appreciate and feel all your love. I am heartbroken over the loss of beloved James.” She extended her heartfelt condolences to Kimberly, Van Der Beek’s children, and his extended family and friends.
Reflecting on their past, McComb wrote, “This picture is from my 21st birthday. Dawson’s Creek hadn’t even aired yet. This is how I will always see James, innocent, kind and pure of heart.” She continued, “What a journey we shared over the years. I sit here in immense gratitude for the special connection, friendship and love that James and I shared that has endured through decades.” McComb highlighted the last loving words they exchanged and described Van Der Beek as a “beautiful soul filled with so much light, love, talent, humor, depth, sensitivity, knowledge, and a deep love of God.”

She further noted his dedication to personal growth, stating, “James shined so bright yet was so humble and human. Always searching, always growing, always going deeper, always chasing things outside his comfort zone.” McComb emphasized Van Der Beek’s love for fatherhood and his bond with Kimberly, calling them “true soulmates” and admiring her supportive nature.
McComb concluded her tribute by acknowledging the impact Van Der Beek had on those who knew him and the significance of his journey. “God, please hold Kimberly, his children, his family, and everyone who is mourning his loss in your arms.
