Jack Black Joins the Five-Timers Club on SNL with Hilarious Monologue and Star-Studded Guests
If anyone can breathe new life into a Saturday Night Live sketch that has overstayed its welcome, it’s the recently inducted Five-Timer Jack Black.
Black’s induction into the prestigious SNL club featured a star-studded lineup, with cameos from notable figures such as Jonah Hill, Tina Fey, Candice Bergen, and Melissa McCarthy.
In a special opening monologue, Hill surprised the Studio 8H audience by announcing his involvement in a fictional Superbad 2. When Black inquired about its authenticity, Hill humorously replied, “No, I just really like the sound of applause.”
However, Hill was present for a more pressing issue: the unsettling atmosphere at the Five-Timers Club lounge, which had taken on a ghostly vibe, complete with cobwebs.
“There’s evil lurking around every corner,” Black exclaimed, only to be met with Fey’s quip, “No, it’s just me.”
Fey further lightened the moment by joking, “You’re the first Black in the Five-Timers Club,” while wearing a jacket that read SNL UK First-Timers, a nod laced with double meaning. Dwayne Johnson, while of Black Nova Scotian descent, remains the only non-white member of the club.
The melancholic tone of the lounge was attributed to the running gag about Tom Hanks’ old joke, resurfacing once more in Fey’s fifth appearance in a Five-Timers Club sketch. SNL humorously poked fun at itself when Marcello Hernández‘s character Domingo made his fifth appearance as well, only to be comically interrupted by musical guest Jack White, another Five-Timer, who struck him with a frying pan.
To rejuvenate the lounge, Black decided to kick things up a notch with a classic rock performance, declaring, “I’m gonna fix it by singing the world’s most rockin’ song,” as the iconic opening notes of The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” filled the air. Amid swirling fog and dramatic dancers, Black invigorated the audience, belting, “And when I put this jacket on I am ready to host,” before launching into the recognizable chorus of the song.
