Hulu is Bringing a New Legal Drama to Life with ‘Opposing Counsel’ by Lauren Fields, Morgan Faust, and Rideback
Hulu Developing New Legal Drama ‘Opposing Counsel’ Based on Sheldon Siegel’s Book Series
Hulu is set to produce Opposing Counsel, a legal drama inspired by Sheldon Siegel’s acclaimed series of books. The project is being developed by Lauren Fields, known for her work on The Flash, and Morgan Faust, who has worked on The Company You Keep and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, alongside Rideback.
The series, scripted by Fields and Faust, is a character-driven portrayal centered in modern-day San Francisco. It focuses on newly elected District Attorney Rosie Fernandez and her husband, Mike Daley, a former priest turned defense attorney. As they navigate their marriage from opposing sides of the law, they frequently clash in court, each determined to uphold their ideals in a challenging legal landscape. The first season highlights a compelling narrative where the couple is drawn into a high-profile murder trial, forcing them to confront both their professional obligations and personal relationship when their best friend faces accusations of a brutal double homicide.
Fields and Faust will serve as executive producers alongside Jonathan Gabay, Jonathan Elrich, and Michael LoFaso for Rideback.
The series is based on Siegel’s 17-book collection, with the inaugural title, Special Circumstances, earning the status of a New York Times Bestseller.
In addition to Opposing Counsel, Rideback is also producing the comedy Last Second Chance for Hulu, which is based on a Japanese format through 20th Television.
Fields has an impressive background, having penned scripts for Berlanti Productions’ The Flash and contributed to the comic book Earth-Prime #3 for DC Comics. A graduate of USC Film & TV Production, she has had various scripts recognized by the Sundance Episodic Lab and the Black List/WIF Feature Residency. Her short film also screened at HollyShorts and WME as part of a director’s showcase. Fields has worked on several series, including DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Blindspotting, and is represented by manager Abigail Palmer at Elevé Entertainment.
Faust most recently held the position of co-executive producer on ABC’s The Company You Keep and served as supervising producer on CW’s DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. His additional credits include Gimme the Loot and Funny Ha Ha. Faust is represented by The Shuman Company and Paradigm Talent Agency.
