Hulu Brings a New Reality Series to Hawai’i in Partnership with Seven Bucks Productions
Dwayne Johnson Ventures into Reality Television with New Series for Hulu
Dwayne Johnson is making his foray into reality television with the development of a new series for Hulu, set against the backdrop of Hawai’i, where he spent a significant part of his childhood. The project, which remains untitled, is produced by Johnson’s own Seven Bucks Productions, a company he co-founded with Dany Garcia.
The series aims to highlight the culturally diverse women of Hawai’i, providing viewers with an authentic portrayal of the island and its inhabitants. Johnson and Garcia will serve as executive producers alongside Hiram Garcia and Scott Landsman, with casting currently underway.
Seven Bucks Productions has previously ventured into unscripted content, producing shows such as the competition series The Titan Games, which aired for two seasons on NBC, as well as documentaries like Fighting Justice and Vice’s Who Killed WCW?. However, this project marks the company’s first entry into the reality ensemble space.
The series is part of Seven Bucks’ first-look deal with Disney’s 20th Television for unscripted projects.
Hulu has recently experienced a resurgence in traditional reality programming, highlighted by the success of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which was renewed for an additional 20 episodes after launching Season 3. Other successful titles include Love Thy Nader, which features Sports Illustrated model Brooks Nader.
Hulu appears committed to producing reality series in appealing locales. Among its current offerings is Love Overboard, a dating show set onboard a yacht in Malta, while The Kardashians continues its seventh season primarily filmed in Calabasas. Additionally, Vanderpump Villa has been renewed for a third season and showcases scenes from France and Italy.
In conjunction with its expansion into reality television, Seven Bucks Productions is also engaged with Disney in the live-action adaptation of Moana and the next installment of the Jumanji franchise, both set to debut in 2026. The company is fresh off the success of A24’s The Smashing Machine.
