Hugh Jackman Predicts Oscar Win for Kate Hudson
At the 35th Annual Gotham Film Awards held on December 1, 2025, Hugh Jackman expressed confidence that his Song Sung Blue co-star, Kate Hudson, will secure an Academy Award for her performance. While accepting the inaugural Musical Tribute at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, Jackman lauded Hudson, stating, "Kate Hudson is not only one of the great stars of our business, she is a consummate actor. I believe this time she is going to get an Oscar."
Hudson, 46, previously garnered an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2001 for her role in Almost Famous. The actress described working alongside Jackman, 58, as one of the "great joys" of her career.
The film Song Sung Blue, which features Hudson and Jackman, follows the story of Mike and Claire Sardina, a couple who form a Neil Diamond tribute band called Lightning & Thunder. The film is anticipated to be a contender in this awards season, as the Gotham Awards serve as one of the earliest indicators of potential Oscar nominations, ahead of the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, and SAG Awards.
Since her last nomination over two decades ago, Hudson has continued to build a diverse filmography, starring in hits such as How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Fool’s Gold, along with notable performances in Deepwater Horizon and The Killer Inside Me.
Oscar buzz for Song Sung Blue has been mounting since its recent debut at the American Film Institute Festival. At a recent Academy and Chanel Women’s Luncheon, Hudson shared her thoughts on the awards season chatter. “You never know with these things,” she said with a laugh. “I’ve been around now long enough to know just to enjoy that people are really loving the movie. And just, you know, show up to where they tell me to go.”
During his acceptance speech, Jackman humorously reflected on Hudson’s career path, noting a difference between her performances in Almost Famous and Song Sung Blue. He jested, "There is a difference, a very important difference, I can tell you, between Kate Hudson in Almost Famous, which was just three years ago, and Kate Hudson in Song Sung Blue."
In a moment of lighthearted camaraderie, Hudson praised Jackman, stating that "harmonizing and performing" with him had been immensely rewarding. To conclude their acceptance, Jackman playfully mentioned former co-star Ryan Reynolds, suggesting that the award would inevitably make the Deadpool actor "insanely jealous."
Jackman thanked Focus Features for supporting a film that, according to him, "every single person in Hollywood turned down, except for [NBC]Universal’s Focus Features."
Song Sung Blue is set to hit theaters on December 25, further paving the way for what could be a triumphant awards season for Hudson.
