On the afternoon of March 15, 2026, strong winds in Austin, Texas, led to the cancellation or relocation of several outdoor events at SXSW, creating a chaotic atmosphere in the city.
Among the events affected was Mau P’s performance at Billboard Presents THE STAGE at Austin’s Moody Amphitheater. The show was initially canceled but was quickly relocated to The Concourse Project, a notable dance venue in the area. As a result of this adjustment, the event transitioned from a ticketed status to free entry, accommodating fans on a first-come, first-served basis.
The announcement was made around 6:00 p.m. local time, and by 6:13, fans had begun lining up at The Concourse Project. The queue swiftly grew, ultimately wrapping around the block as thousands assembled for the chance to attend the performance. When doors opened at 9:00 p.m., the venue was packed.
All three of the Sunday lineup artists from the canceled Moody Amphitheater event were able to perform at The Concourse Project, a venue managed by Austin-based production company RealMusicEvents, co-founded by Kelly Gray and Andrew Parsons over 15 years ago.
The show opened with Texas producer Austin Ashtin, who showcased original productions and lively edits, including Ciara’s “1, 2 Step.” Following Ashtin was Houston’s Apex Martin, whose inventive set featured primarily original “Houston house” tracks, demonstrating his skill and charisma on stage.
At midnight, Mau P took the stage after signing a poster-sized version of his current Billboard cover and receiving a funfetti cake decorated with the same image. This performance marked Mau’s third show of the weekend, following sets in San Francisco and Las Vegas. Despite a packed schedule, Mau exhibited high energy and confidence, quickly engaging the audience that braved the cold winds to see him.

The performance captivated attendees, as Mau’s set encompassed a mix of tracks that included a clever edit of Kanye West’s “Mercy,” along with his hits like “Like I Like It,” “neck,” and “Merther.” The latter prompted the crowd to chant together, echoing Ini Kamoze’s classic line from “World-A-Reggae.” Mau artfully built tension in his mixes, exemplifying restraint and taste that culminated in euphoric moments when the beat finally dropped.
The atmosphere of the night was heightened by the show’s last-minute nature, fostering a friendly, laid-back vibe as attendees wholeheartedly engaged with the music. The staff at The Concourse Project maintained an environment of peace, love, unity, and respect. Despite it being a school night for many, fans remained energized as Mau closed his set with “Drugs From Amsterdam,” his track “Tesla,” and the breezy remix of Tame Impala’s “The Less I Know The Better.” The finale featured a lively edit of Technotronic’s classic “Pump Up the Jam” and Modjo’s hit “Lady (Hear Me Tonight),” resulting in an electrifying moment that had the crowd spinning and singing in unison.
The evening was marked by a sense of serendipity, as Mau P, his team, and the teams at The Concourse Project and Billboard collaborated successfully to create an unforgettable experience for the thousands of fans who turned out to celebrate.
