HBO Max Europe, Foxtel, and Sky New Zealand Join the List of Buyers for Crave’s New Drama Series ‘Yaga’
New Canadian Drama Series ‘Yaga’ Joins Growing International Interest
Interest in the upcoming Canadian drama series Yaga, featuring Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams, continues to rise as multiple broadcasters secure distribution rights.
HBO Max in Europe (excluding the UK and Ireland), Foxtel in Australia, and Sky New Zealand have all acquired the series from distributor Sphere Abacus. These deals come shortly after AMC Global Media obtained U.S. rights and Sky took on the UK and Ireland distribution.
Produced by Bell Media’s Crave, Blink49 Studios, and Front Street Media, Yaga is being marketed internationally in both a four-part hour-long and an eight-part half-hour format.
The cast includes Williams, Carrie-Anne Moss, Clark Backo, and Noah Reid, and the series is based on Kat Sadler’s play, which reinterprets the myth of Baba Yaga into a contemporary mystery thriller. Sadler serves as both writer and showrunner.
Yaga follows private investigator Rapp (Reid) as he arrives in a small coastal town to probe the disappearance of young heir Henry Park (Williams), who is tied to a powerful fishery. As Rapp delves deeper, he faces challenges from a wary local detective, Carson (Backo), a charming university professor, Katherine (Moss), and a web of mysterious suspects and hidden lives.
Supporting performances come from Sheila McCarthy, Megan Follows, Ezra Franky, Patrick Gilmore, Katharine Isabelle, Hiro Kanagawa, Emilija Baranac, Georgia Acken, Anisa Harris, and Sam Krochmal. Co-directors David Frazee and Rachel Talalay, along with executive producers Mackenzie Donaldson, Andrew Miller, and Moss, round out the production team, with Charles Cooper serving as producer.
Hana Palmer, Sphere Abacus’ Head of Sales, commented on the project’s positive reception, stating, “We’re seeing a fantastic response across major territories for this unique series. Yaga is a brilliant example of a genre-defying, high-energy production – with an incredible cast. Combine these attributes with the exceptional credentials of Bell Media, Canada’s premier media and content company, and we look forward to announcing further global sales in the weeks to come.”
