Hannah Berner and Paige DeSorbo Join Forces for a New Comedy Series at Netflix with Amy Poehler and Kay Cannon
Hannah Berner and Paige DeSorbo Transition to Comedy Series with Netflix
Reality television stars Hannah Berner and Paige DeSorbo, known for their roles in Summer House and their podcast Giggly Squad, are set to embark on a new journey in the entertainment world as they develop a half-hour scripted comedy series for Netflix. The project, created by the duo, gained traction in a competitive bidding environment and is being co-written and headlined by Berner and DeSorbo.
The series, which currently has no official title, will feature the two women as fictionalized versions of themselves navigating life and supporting each other as they strive to become their best selves. The project is produced by Amy Poehler, along with Kay Cannon, who serves as co-writer and showrunner. Universal Television, the studio behind the effort, is home to Poehler’s Paper Kite Productions.
Berner and DeSorbo initially met while briefly working for the same company in New York City, and their friendship deepened when they joined Summer House in its third season. Berner departed after Season 5 to pursue stand-up comedy, while DeSorbo left following Season 9 to focus on her career as a fashion influencer, including the launch of her Daphne sleepwear line.
In addition to their podcast, which recently won Podcast of the Year at the 2026 iHeartPodcast Awards, the pair has also begun to explore acting roles. They will appear in Mindy Kaling’s upcoming Hulu comedy series, Not Suitable For Work.
Berner’s comedy journey includes opening for Poehler and Tina Fey in May 2025. The relationship between the two pairs blossomed further when Berner and DeSorbo appeared on Poehler’s podcast Good Hang. This connection proved pivotal in bringing Poehler on board for the comedy project, especially considering her past success as an executive producer on Broad City, a series featuring real-life friends in New York.
The untitled comedy has been established at Universal Television through Poehler’s exclusive deal. It quickly garnered interest from multiple parties before landing with Netflix, securing a script-to-series commitment.
Universal Television has emerged as a leading supplier of comedy content for Netflix, contributing to multiple successful projects, including shows like Mike Schur’s The Man On the Inside and Tina Fey’s The Four Seasons.
In 2024-25, Berner and DeSorbo took their Giggly Squad podcast on a successful tour across the U.S. and Canada, including two sold-out performances at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The duo also published their bestselling book, How to Giggle: A Guide to Taking Life Less Seriously.
Separately, Berner headlined the 2024 Netflix comedy special Hannah Berner: We Ride At Dawn, while DeSorbo hosted the red carpet at the Netflix Actor Awards. Both are represented by WME and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
Cannon is currently directing an upcoming Netflix romantic comedy, One Attempt Remaining, featuring Jennifer Garner and John Cena, and has also directed the Hulu comedy pilot Don’t Get High. She is repped by WME and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
Poehler, who recently won the first podcast Golden Globe for Good Hang, co-created with Schur and stars in the upcoming Peacock comedy series Dig. She is represented by WME, 3 Arts, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
