Haley Lu Richardson Shares Thoughts on a Possible Return to ‘The White Lotus’ and Portia’s Journey in Season 2 of ‘Ponies’
Haley Lu Richardson Reflects on Portia’s Future in HBO’s The White Lotus
Haley Lu Richardson captured audience attention as Portia, the quirky assistant to Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge), in Season 2 of HBO’s The White Lotus. With her distinctive style, characterized by bucket hats and complicated relationships, Portia stood out in a season marked by dramatic twists.
Although her boss faced a tragic end, Portia emerged from the chaos in Italy with her life intact, leaving the door open for possible future appearances if creator Mike White decides to revisit the character. Richardson expressed her willingness to return. “Mike is a genius. I really trust him,” she said. “Portia has her moments, but I have empathy for her, and I’d play her again.”
When considering Portia’s journey after the challenging experiences in Sicily, Richardson remarked, “I hope she’s in therapy.”
Currently, Richardson stars alongside Emilia Clarke in Peacock’s Cold War spy comedy-drama Ponies (Persons of No Interest). The series features them as Bea (Clarke) and Twila (Richardson), secretaries at the American embassy in Moscow who become entangled with the CIA following the mysterious deaths of their husbands, both CIA operatives.
Since its launch, Ponies has performed well, consistently ranking among the top two titles on Peacock’s daily Top 10 series in the U.S. Viewership data from Luminate and Nielsen will provide further insights into the show’s performance.
As for a potential second season, Richardson shared, “I’m literally waiting for a call to be like, ‘Guys you did good enough to do a Season 2,’ but I haven’t gotten that, so I don’t know.” She expressed excitement about the opportunity to explore her character’s deeper vulnerabilities. “That’s something that she’s been doing for the first time in her life throughout the arc of the season, so I would like to explore that more,” she added.
