Green Day will perform at the opening ceremony for the 2026 Super Bowl, set for February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
The East Bay band, featuring Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool, is expected to energize the event with “their most iconic rock anthems,” as announced by the NFL on Sunday, January 17. Specific song selections remain a surprise, but the trio’s repertoire includes hits from the mid-1990s to the present, starting with their breakout single “Basket Case” from the classic 1994 album Dookie.
This year’s opening ceremony will not only celebrate 60 years of Super Bowl history but will also honor the Super Bowl MVPs. It will be broadcast live on Super Bowl Sunday at 3 p.m. PT/6 p.m. ET on NBC, Telemundo, Peacock, and Universo, prior to the main event.
“We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!” said Billie Joe Armstrong in a statement released by the NFL. “We are honored to welcome the MVPs who’ve shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let’s have fun! Let’s get loud!”
Tim Tubito, the NFL’s senior director of event and game presentation, remarked, “Celebrating 60 years of Super Bowl history with Green Day as a hometown band, while honoring the NFL Legends who’ve helped define this sport is an incredibly powerful way to kick off Super Bowl LX. As we work alongside NBC Sports for this opening ceremony, we look forward to creating a collective celebration for fans in the stadium and around the world.”
Green Day’s performance will precede the NFL’s earlier announced pregame entertainment lineup, which includes Charlie Puth singing the national anthem, Brandi Carlile performing “America the Beautiful,” and Coco Jones set to sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
Bad Bunny is set to headline this year’s Super Bowl halftime show. The Puerto Rican superstar recently released a teaser trailer, stating, “the world will dance.” His album Debi Tirar Mas Fotos dominated the Billboard 200 chart for four weeks last year, and his world tour has already achieved remarkable success, grossing $107 million from 697,000 tickets sold across just the first 12 shows of the eight-month tour.
