Grace Beedie, Molly Ringwald, David Arquette, and Grace Dove Come Together in Indie Film ‘Crazy Sunshine: The Mess We Made’
Principal Photography Concludes on Indie Film Crazy Sunshine; The Mess We Made
Principal photography on the indie film Crazy Sunshine; The Mess We Made has wrapped this week in British Columbia, Canada. The film features an ensemble cast including Grace Beedie, known for Zero Chill, Molly Ringwald from Yellowjackets, David Arquette of the Scream franchise, and Grace Dove from Alaska Daily.
Written and directed by Christie Will, in collaboration with co-writer Courtney Paige, the film draws inspiration from true events and is set against the rugged backdrop of Western Canada in the early 2000s.
The narrative centers on Lennon, played by Beedie, a seventeen-year-old grappling with mental health challenges stemming from a fragmented family dynamic. Her single mother, portrayed by Ringwald, is striving to maintain stability while her father, played by Arquette, battles addiction. As those around her navigate the consequences of addiction, Lennon finds herself navigating a path between chaos and resilience, ultimately confronting her past in a bid for a more hopeful future.
Will is producing the film alongside Tara Cowell-Plain for Extraordinarily Unordinary Entertainment, with support from executive producer Mary Aloe of Aloe Entertainment. Paige will also serve as an executive producer, along with co-executive producer Lena Lees-Heidt. Jackie Lind is handling casting duties.
Additional cast members include Morgan Taylor Campbell and Ryan Robbins, who will appear in the upcoming Netflix reboot of Little House on the Prairie.
“This story comes from a deeply personal place,” Will remarked. “It’s about the quiet battles happening inside families — the ones shaped by mental health, addiction, and the fragile hope that healing is still possible. My hope is that the film reminds people they are not alone in those struggles.”
Beedie recently starred in Alexander Ludwig’s directorial debut, Billings, and is recognized for her role in Netflix’s Zero Chill. Ringwald has been featured in the indie film Run Amok, which premiered at Sundance this year, and is set to return in the upcoming season of Yellowjackets. Arquette continues his legacy in the Scream franchise and is expected to appear in Scarpetta. Dove is noted for her role in the Indigenous film Bones of Crows and for her work in Alaska Daily.
The production team has partnered with the Kelty Foundation, an organization dedicated to enhancing youth mental health.
The principal cast is represented by various management agencies: Beedie through Collingwood Management, Ringwald via Untitled Entertainment and Barking Dog Entertainment, Arquette through Artium and Lighthouse Entertainment, and Dove with CESD and other partners.
